My Boy

I told him not to sign up, to stay right here in the hills

He could turn wrenches at Barker’s, it’d be enough to pay the bills

But he wasn’t running from poverty, said he felt called to go

I’d like to ask him if it was worth it, but now I’ll never know

Cause Uncle Sam took my boy, in some far off foreign land

But I shouldn’t say boy, cause he was definitely a man

They say when he fell, two more got to come on home

They call me once a year, through tears on the telephone

They tell stories full of laughter, and some that make me cry

And the words echo loudly, as they close with Semper Fi

These are the voices who call us to serve our nation, protect our fellow Americans and those who need our assistance world wide. Those echoes are not to leave home behind. Those voices are those who call us to do with others are not able to to do for whatever reason made them feel good when they look in the mirror.
