The Pain And Love That I Feel

(written for a friend who lost his ten month old son)

When you came to us, your little smile just stole my heart
And your bright eyes, said daddy when can we start
To play outside, to feel the sun and smell the rain
But your few days, were filled with so much pain

I talked to God again, I’d been away for far too long
I begged Him please, please don’t take my son
I felt so helpless, and I held his little hand
How do I go on without you, my sweet little man

CHORUS
And now when I close my eyes, all I can see is your smile
And I’m feeling so much pain
It’s like a cold hard rain
I stare and look at the sky, my arms limp by my side
No words can utter
The pain and love that I feel

And there’s not a price, that I would not pay
If only you, could stay one more day
To hold you in my arms, and keep you by my side
But when you left, something inside me died

And now when I close my eyes, all I can see is your smile
And I’m feeling so much pain
It’s like a cold hard rain
I stare and look at the sky, my arms limp by my side
No words can utter
The pain and love that I feel

Now I take her hand, how do you dry a mother’s tears
Which way to turn, the vision’s not so clear
Like trying to chart a course, across the sea
I can’t believe, now it’s just her and me

And now when I close my eyes, all I can see is your smile
And I’m feeling so much pain
It’s like a cold hard rain
I stare and look at the sky, my arms limp by my side
No words can utter
The pain and love that I feel
