Walkie’s ode

The fight was hard
And the scars are deep
And to this day
I still weep

I am alive
But they are now gone
Why was I
The one to come home

Brothers in arms
Side by side
Yet one man lived
And the other one died

I’ve searched the bottle
And I shout to the sky
But after the storm
I still don’t know why

They were so young
And I have a few years
Now I wrestle with demons
And shed bitter tears

If I’m not a good man
Then they died in vain
I won’t tarnish their memory
I won’t bring them shame

So I begin a new day
My eyes are now clear
They won’t be forgotten
For all of my years
